Copy Purchases Between Apple Devices

For a long time, Apple made it very difficult to transfer music or other content from one iPod or iPhone to another. It was always easy to sync content to the devices from a computer, but syncing content between devices was another story. Recently, it has become much easier to copy purchases and other content between Apple devices, though, thanks to iCloud. Use the steps to use iCloud to transfer purchases between devices - no PC required.

Step 1
To do this, you will need to have an iCloud backup of your data. In addition, both of the Apple devices you are using will need to have iOS 5 or later installed.

Step 2
Backup your old Apple device to iCloud. Open the Settings menu and scroll down until you find “iCloud.” Select it to launch a new menu, then scroll down the page again and tap “Storage & Backup.” At the bottom of the menu, you’ll see “iCloud Backup.” Toggle the switch to turn it on. Your device should launch the backup.

Step 3
As your old device creates a backup, set up your new device and prepare it to receive the backup. Select your language, country, location services preferences, and Wi-Fi network. The setup process should also include a page where you will choose whether to set up your device as a new phone, restore from iCloud, or restore from iTunes. Select “Restore from iCloud Backup.”

Step 4
When prompted, enter your Apple ID and password. As long as the backup on your old device is finished, you should be able to select it from your iCloud account. (Backups are listed by date and time.) Once you’ve found the backup you want, select it and tap “Restore.”

Recap
Now, all you have to do is wait for the backup to download to your new Apple device! Once that’s done, all of the content from your old device—including purchases—will have transferred to the new device.
