How to Add Google Analytics to your Website

If you have a website, you can find out how many visitors have viewed it, the various keywords that were used to find your website, which search engines the visitors used, and other relevant information. This information is useful since it can help you to generate even more traffic to your website.

One of the ways you can track this data is by adding Google Analytics to your website. Using the tracking, you can easily view metrics. Below, you will find the steps involved for adding Google Analytics to your website.

Step 1: You must have a Google Analytics account. If you have one, sign in. If you do not have an account, click “Create an account now” and follow the instructions.

Step 2: Once you have signed in or created your account, you must find your tracking code. Select the Admin tab.

Step 3: Select Tracking Info. Your tracking code will be displayed. It is a string of code that will start with <script> and end with <script>.

Step 4: Copy the tracking code in its entirety. Do not edit it at all.

Step 5: Add the tracking code to your website. The code should be pasted just before the closing header tag.

Step 6: To make sure that the tracking code works correctly, you can go to the Overview page in Google Analytics. Choose the account (if you have more than one) from the Actions menu and click on Edit. In the upper right hand corner of the screen, you can click Check Status. In the status box, you will be able to verify whether or not the tracking code was properly installed.

With the tracking code properly installed, you can now track the activity on your website. Once the tracking code has been installed, it will take 24 hours for Google Analytics to begin tracking your website. You will then have access to information that can help you generate more website traffic.
