How to Hide Installed Apple apps

Chances are that if you’ve had an iPhone or iPad for a while, you already know how to delete apps that you yourself have downloaded. But what about those pesky pre-loaded apps that come with the phone, stuff like Newsstand, Passbook, and Game Center that most people never use? For whatever reason, Apple seems to really want you to hold onto these apps, and makes it so you can’t delete them from your device.

There are ways to get rid of the apps if you jailbreak your phone, but doing so is a complicated, difficult process, and can often void your Apple warranty or even render your phone unusable. The best way to “remove” stock Apple apps, then, is to simply hide them away in a spot where they won’t bother you or clutter up your home screen anymore.

Step 1
In order to hide your unwanted apps, you will need to create a folder. To do this, you will simply start by doing what you would normally do if you wanted to delete an app: go to your phone’s home screen, tap and hold the icon of any app, and wait until all of the app icons on the screen start to jiggle. You will now be able to move app icons around as you please.

Step 2
To create a folder, simply drag one app icon and drop it into another icon. For our purposes, start by grabbing Newsstand, dragging it over to Passbook, and then letting it go. A folder will generate itself, and both apps will be automatically placed in the folder. You can change the name of the folder (we chose “Apple stuff”) before return to the home screen and dragging other apps into said folder.

It’s annoying that Apple doesn’t allow you complete control over which apps you are and are not allowed to delete from your device. However, above method makes it easy to put all of your unwanted Apple apps (from iTunes to Stocks) in a single place. This is helpful for two reasons: first, it saves you a lot of space to put seven apps under one folder icon; second, you can now dump the folder on your second or third page of apps. Since Apple’s pre-installed apps don’t take up a lot of storage space, it will be like they aren’t even on your phone anymore!
