It wasn’t long ago that rooting an Android phone was the preserve of nerds. Fortunately that has all changed and now just about anyone can root and Android phone with just a few steps. With the advent of all-in-one applications that can take care of rooting for you, the entire process has never been easier. If you want to learn how to root almost any Android phone, read on!

Why root your Android phone?
Rooting your phone gives you admin access to all the files that are usually locked away in the phone’s operating system. It opens up the phone for you to do pretty much what you like with it.
How to root your Android phone

There are a selection of root toolkits available on the internet and some are better than others. I would suggest researching their pros and cons before choosing the one that suits you best. Many come with both PC and APK versions but I would suggest using the PC to make life a little easier.

Before you start
• Make sure your phone has a full charge.
• Backup your phone somewhere safe.
• Double check your phone is listed as supported on the website of the toolkit you’re going to use.

Rooting an Android phone
1. Download your root toolkit of choice and install it onto your PC.
2. Run the tool.
3. Enable USB debugging on your phone by accessing the Settings menu and selecting Developer options and then USB debugging.
4. Plug the phone into the PC via USB.
5. Wait for the PC and your root toolkit to recognize the phone.
6. Click the Root button within the toolkit (some toolkits may differ here but usually includes instructions on screen).
7. Wait for confirmation that rooting was completed.
8. Remove your phone and reboot it.

That’s all there is to it. Your handset should work normally and you can now load custom ROMs and do pretty much whatever you like with it!
