Facebook requires you to use its Facebook Messenger app to send messages from your smartphone. It didn't always used to be this way; you used to be able to send messages from the Facebook app. A number of users have expressed concerns over privacy and having to use two apps where they previously used one. Still, they want to be able to exchange messages with Facebook friends.
There is a workaround, though. You can send messages from Facebook via your web browser and never use Messenger. It's a lengthier process, but you won't have to download the Messenger app.
- ■Turn on your Android smartphone.
■Tap the Menu icon to display the apps list.
■From the list, locate and tap your favorite web browser. (E.g. Google Chrome in this demonstration)
■In the address bar, type www.facebook.com and hit the Go button.
■If prompted, provide your login credentials in the appropriate fields, and tap the Log In button.
■On the Home page, tap the Menu icon (icon with the three horizontal lines) from the top-left corner.
■From the displayed list, under the APPS section, tap the Chat option.
■On the next interface, ensure that Chat is On.
■From the online friends list, tap the desired contact to whom you want to send a message.
■Once the target user is selected, type a message in the Write a message field.
■Finally, tap the Reply button to send the message.
