When your contract is up with your wireless carrier, you may want to bring your Samsung Galaxy Note 4 elsewhere.

In order to use your Galaxy Note 4 with any carrier different from the one to which your phone is currently locked, you must unlock your device. To do so, you must contact the customer support department of your current wireless carrier and place a device unlock request. Once your device unlock request has been processed and approved by the carrier, you are notified and provided with a unique unlock code that is specific to your Galaxy Note 4. You can then use the code to unlock your mobile to be able to use it with different wireless carriers.

In order to place the unlock request for your Galaxy Note 4, you must ensure that your phone is eligible for unlocking. Your Galaxy Note 4 must pass all the following conditions to be able to be eligible for unlocking:

[listNum]■The phone must be locked with the currently used wireless carrier.
■The phone must be active and in working condition.
■The IMEI number of your Galaxy Note 4 must not be blocked or blacklisted with the carrier.
■The phone must not be reported stolen or lost.
■All the outstanding payments of the phone must be cleared and paid in full.
■The phone must have no pending monthly bills or installments yet to be paid.
■The phone must have completed the minimum threshold duration set by the wireless carrier.
[/listNum]

Note: Most wireless carriers have a duration of 60 days or more for the postpaid subscriptions, and 1 year or more for the prepaid ones. You can get the detailed information about the threshold duration set by your wireless carrier by contacting its customer support department.

Once you are sure that your Galaxy Note 4 meets all of the requirements to become eligible for unlocking, you must collect certain information about your phone before calling the customer service department of your wireless carrier. The information required to unlock your phone includes:

[listNum]■The full name of the buyer registered with the carrier.
■The 10-digit subscription number (mobile number) of the phone.
■The IMEI number of the device.
Note: In your Galaxy Note 4 phone, you can get your IMEI number by dialing *#06#, or by going to Settings > About device > Status.
■Type of subscription availed, i.e. postpaid, prepaid, prior customer, etc.
■The email address registered with the carrier at the time of purchase.
■Last 4 digits of your Social Security Number (SSN).
■If applicable, the account’s passcode.
[/listNum]

Note: In case you have purchased a used Galaxy Note 4, you will need this information from the original buyer.

International SIM Unlock or ISU – ISU is just the opposite of DSU. This means, your ISU unlocked Galaxy Note 4 can be used only with the carriers from outside the US, and the SIM cards from the domestic carriers would not work with the phone.

Unlocking Galaxy Note 4 from Verizon
Verizon uses CDMA technology and therefore many of its mobile phones cannot hop between different wireless carriers. However, there are still some phone models that have already unlocked GSM SIM slot. In such phones, you can insert a SIM card of any other wireless carrier and start using the services normally without any approval or unlock code from Verizon.
