Update all Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 drivers
If you want to update your Dell XPS 13 2-in-1, you have two options. You can use Dell System Detect to automatically check for updates or you can do it manually. I always prefer to do things myself, so will describe that process here.
1. Select the Windows Start button and then select Settings.
2. Navigate to Update & security and select Advanced options.
3. Check the box next to ‘Give me updates for other Microsoft products when I update Windows’. This will allow Microsoft to bundle supporting updates.
4. Return to the Update & security window.
5. Select Check for updates and allow Windows update to complete.
This will make sure Windows 10 and any Microsoft-supported drivers are installed.
You can also check manually for updates.
1. Right click the Windows Start button and select Device Manager.
2. Right click a device and select Update Driver Software.
3. Select ‘Search automatically…’ and allow Windows to search.
4. Apply any updates and select Close once complete.
5. Repeat for graphics, Wi-Fi, Sound and network cards in turn
Update the BIOS on the Dell XPS 13 2-in-1
Updating the BIOS is a little more involved than drivers but is still well within the capabilities of the average owner. You no longer need to boot a computer from disk or upgrade BIOS from a flash drive, you can now do it from within Windows. Just follow these steps:
First we need to check your BIOS version and then we’ll use the Dell website to download the update and install it.
1. Open a CMD window as an administrator.
2. Type or paste ‘systeminfo’ and hit Enter. Look for BIOS Version partway down the screen. Make a note of it.
3. Go to the Dell Drivers and downloads page and enter your Service Tag or browse manually.
4. Select BIOS from the list and compare version numbers. If there is a newer one, download it.
5. Double click the downloaded file and allow the BIOS to update. The process includes a reboot or two and will take a few minutes.
6. Use ‘systeminfo’ once more to check the version number has been changed. If it has, the BIOS has been successfully updated. If it has not, perform these steps again.
Now your Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 is fully up to date. If you do this manually rather than use Dell System Detect, remember to periodically check for updates once a month or so.
