I Don’t Want Anyone Else but Me to Use TuneUp Utilities

Since the TuneUp Utilities application accesses the secure locations and various system protected files of the operating system, it requires the administrator account to be logged on in order to get initialized. Even after the administrator account is used to log on to the computer, the User Account Control of the operating system (in case of Windows Vista and above) requires your consent before it actually allows the application to get initialized.

If you have only one administrator account on your computer, and it is only you who knows the password, you are already using the TuneUp Utilities in a secure manner where no one else but you is authorized to access the application.

Apart from this simple Windows-based security for the initialization of the TuneUp Utilities application, the program itself has a built-in security feature where you can protect the initialization of the application with the password. The password that you specify for the initialization of the TuneUp Utilities program can or cannot be the same as the administrator account of your Windows operating system.

With the TuneUp Utilities specific password that you specify within the applications interface, you can restrict the initialization and accessibility of the application only for the people who know the TuneUp Utilities password. In this case, even if you share the administrator account password with others (which is absolutely and strongly not recommended), the other administrators would still be unable to initialize and the TuneUp Utilities program until they know the password of the application itself.

Here is how you can restrict the initialization and accessibility of the TuneUp Utilities application by protecting it with a password:

■Using the administrator account, log on to the computer on which you want to restrict the initialization and accessibility of the TuneUp Utilities program.

■Once logged on, initialize the TuneUp Utilities by any of the known methods. (TuneUp Utilities 2014 is used for this demonstration.).

■On the displayed User Account Control confirmation box, click Yes to provide your consent to continue with the initialization process.

■From the top of the displayed interface, click the Settings option.

■On the opened TuneUp Utilities settings box, from the left pane, click to select the Password protection category.

■From the right pane, check the Enable password protection checkbox.

■Under the Password section, type and retype a strong password in the enabled Password and Repeat password fields.

■Under the Hint section, type a hint for the specified password in the Hint field.

■Once this is done, click OK to save the changes.

■Finally close the TuneUp Utilities application.

■In order to verify the modifications, try initializing the TuneUp Utilities. You will be prompted for the password. If not, restart the computer and then try again.
