I Don’t Want Orbit Downloader to Check for Updates

Frankly speaking, this is not the recommended setting, especially while using any Internet download manager such as Orbit Downloader. The reason behind this is that such download managers are efficient and capable enough to grab any kind of file that is available on the Internet. Apart from this, there are many sites that do not support the download managers, and therefore even the Orbit Downloader might sometimes fail to download the files from such sites.

Assuming another scenario where a particular site previously did not support the download managers, but the latest version of any download manager somehow became capable of bypassing such restriction and can now easily download the files from those sites. If your instance of Orbit Downloader is not configured to check for automatic updates, it might not be able to get the updated version of the program, hence preventing the file downloads from such sites.

As a positive aspect, if the automatic updates are disabled, you can be sure that the additional Internet bandwidth would not be consumed unnecessarily. If you are using a dial-up connection, or if your Internet connection comes with a limited download plan, disabling the automatic updates in your instance of Orbit Downloader might save you decent amount of funds.

As per the default configuration, the Orbit Downloader is configured to check for automatic updates and download them as soon as it detects them. If you wish to disable the automatic updates in the program, you must follow the instructions given as below:

■Log on to the computer on which Orbit Downloader is installed.

■Initialize the Orbit Downloader program if it was not already started during the Windows boot process.

■Once initialized, right-click the Orbit Downloader icon in the system tray at the bottom right corner of the computer screen.

■From the displayed context menu, go to Preferences.

■Once done, click OK to save the changes.

■It is recommended to restart the Orbit Downloader in order to allow the changes to take effect.

Note: If you use your computer at your home and you keep shutting it down at nights or very frequently, the requirement of restarting the Orbit Downloader right after making the above modifications can be eliminated.
