The Stardew Valley “Archaeology” Story Quest is one of the one more difficult quests in the Stardew Valley. The quest requires time, and considerable resources to complete. To help you out, I have made a Step by Step guide to completing the Quest.

To start the quest, you need to enter the Stardew Valley Museum, and library. The Museum and the library is located in the south-east corner of the Pelican Town. To get to the Museum and library, you will have to cross the river that meanders through the town. The quest won’t trigger upon your entering but rather you will get a notice of the quest upon entering the building. You will need to enter the Museum and library with an Artifact or Mineral to trigger the quest.

Walkthrough
Artifacts and Minerals are listed under the collections tab, in the menu. To find an artifact or a mineral, you will need to go on plenty of scavenger hunts. Finding each artifact and each mineral will take up too much time. So for this article, I will limit myself to finding the easiest one:

1. Artifacts: Nothing could be simpler than finding an artifact. Pick a Hoe as your tool and wander around the dirt paths. These dirt paths can be found between two busy places. (The road between the farm and the town is a good place to start and the beach south of the Pelican town is another Artifact rich zone). Look for wriggling things like worms coming out of the ground. Use the Hoe that brought with you to dig on that exact spot and if you are lucky, you will find an artifact. If not, then find another spot with worms and start digging.

2. Minerals: To mine for minerals, you will need your Pickaxe. Use your pickaxe to start randomly smashing rocks and continue smashing rocks until you find a few Geodes. Once you found the Geodes take them to Clint the blacksmith. Clint will bash the Geodes open and you may find a Mineral inside. Mining the mines is another way to go, but Geodes is far easier and is a far safer way of guaranteeing you a Geode.

3. Once you have obtained the Artifact or Mineral. Head on over to the Museum.

4. Upon Entering, you will see a cutscene Involving Gunther; the proprietor. Once the scene is done, you can speak to Gunther.

5. Hand over the artifact/mineral to Gunther.

Congratulation by handing over the artifact to Gunther; you have completed the quest. Remember you won’t get anything from the museum for your donation, but you will earn a nifty 250 gold for completing the quest.

The Stardew Valley “Archaeology” Story Quest is one of the most difficult quests in Stardew, but you can easily complete it if you know what you are doing. Go through each of the steps in the Walkthrough, and you will have no trouble finishing the quest.
