can you connect it on tv? try press function key to switch to alternate/external display.. i.e. Fn + F3, Fn + F5, Fn + F8, or Fn + F9 few times (depends on the model - look for monitor logo)... - If you can get display then could be probs with laptop LCD...

You laptop must have dedicated graphics aside from Intel HD graphics but use same port... How about clean installation of drivers? but before that, you may try sfc /scannow. Just to see if you don't have system file error.. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833

To happens when you are not log in are Administrator.. How about search "nvcplui " in C:\Windows\system32\

If the display turns blank, try put some light on it either flashlight/torch or table lamp.. if you can find same image (dim) then goes out without a light... your display inverter is failing... But if your display is having mixed colors then most probably loose connections, it could be that...

I suggested to follow the guide to make sure you will not have driver issue particularly you have mentioned some error: "..error : You do not have privileges to select the graphics processor in this menu" Before start tweaking your graphics settings it is better that you cleared drivers error...
