    I don't have any monitors to connect, but I did open this laptop some time ago, maybe didn't connect the screen cable properly as you say. It happens rarely but makes me wonder if the laptop is about to die, it survived 5 years of heavy usage so far.

    I have it happen occasionally, everything in the background runs fine, sometimes putting laptop to sleep and back on fixes it, then the screen vibrates for a moment(not sure how to describe it) and then works normally.
