If you dont want any software with it just make sure it is ohci compliant and has a lucent or texas istrament chip and it will work with all editing programs. I wouldn't spend more than $70 on one i seen em as low as $40.

All 1394 OHCI compliant cards will work with windows 98,ME,2k They use the same driver. All dv editing software for 1394 works only with ohci compliant cards. If it is digital 8 there are difrent formats and settings. If it is mini dv check if it was recorded in lp mode there should be a little switch on the casette. I say that because some cameras dont support the lp mode. "DONT FLIP THE SWITCH THOUGH"

No that i know of but i havn't looked at the knew software out there. They have special 1394 web cams with special drivers out there though.

I have seen problems with the ulead software i think it is low quality software and the format in witch it captures is not compatable with other programs. The best Software for 1394 editing is adobe premiere 6.1. I know the person who did the 1394 support and with 6.1 all the bugs are out. IT...

U could use adobe premeare but it costs about $400 and is more for vid editing. But u could also use the ulead vid capture software $40. I have had not much luke with the ulead but i think thats because im using a 1394 card to capture.
