Turning on your phone to see if there is something you might have missed is "exactly" the reason why Apple is stupid for not adding a NOTIFICATION LIGHT to its iphones.. I glance at my Samsung S4 but don't need to ever turn it on UNLESS I see the Notification light on.. Pretty dam simple really...
