What type of cable do I need to connect my hp laptop to an external monitor?

The dongle I want to plug into the phone appears to be micro . The phone is micro v C. If I am reading the article correctly, an adapter or splitter may not be available, which I think is odd. If I could figure out how to attach pictures, I would. Thanks for helping me.
