Ugh, Hacked Through Remote Desktop (Win 7). What to Do?

As someone who routinely investigates and re-mediates network intrusions I can easily say, the most secure solution is to wipe your system - switch out the drive (or at least use a forensic wiper) and start over. Of course also, monitor any account that you may have accessed and change all your...

Looking for Great Blu Ray Ripping Software

Hey all, I like to get all my movies ripped onto my home server and use Plex to view my movies while I travel. Lately though I've been having difficulty properly ripping them. Can anyone recommend a comprehensive Blu-Ray ripper? I was using a really nice one from Aieesoft a while back but...

Buying new Headset, Help needed (Astro a40/50, Sennheiser Game one/zero/363d

I has a set of Astro A50 for one day then returned them. If you are going to spend that amount of money I'd go for the Steelseries H Wireless (which I own) or the new Logitec G933 (which I probably would have bought if they were available when I needed to buy a new headset.) Sennheiser always...

Laptop switches off abruptly when battery runs out

No trying to be insensitive but is this a serious question? If the laptop has no battery power it just shuts off - as does any device without power. Battery runs out = no power. No power = abrupt instantaneous shut off. Shut off = no time for a proper shutdown.

Replacing CPU instead of whole laptop?

In my opinion other than SSD and memory upgrades its not worth taking apart a laptop. For one, depending on the break down, you may need special tools for mirco-screws. Next, if you are not used to working on the compressed and small form factors, breaking them down and putting them back...

    sharp aquos 60" no power

Probably a bad capacitor on the PCB or bad power regulator. If you are inclined, unplug it for a couple of days. Let the power drain, then open it up. It it's a bad capacitor you'll notice it. I've replaced bad capacitors on other branded flat screens before and its not that hard. There are...

    HTPC Build Help

    1. When building an HTPC don't skimp on the CPU - especially if you are planning on using it for light gaming. And light gaming may mean different things to you than me - so understand what you really want to do with it. 2. If you plan to have multiple devices connected and streaming...

Weird ovelay in all of my games

Check your installed programs. Look to see if there is something that you do not remember installing. I seem to remember when I used Mumble there was some sort of plug in like Overlord or something that was installed with it. Not sure if that is the issue or why it would still be there if you...

    Brand New Headphones Crackling Sounds

Try using the headset on a USB hub with nothing else on it. I have a pair of Turtle Beach Earforce Sevens and they seem to pick up a little static when the SSD is accessed for some reason. I found putting them on their own USB controller worked. Not sure why - maybe a quirk with the Mobo.
