Thanks Jay---Would that work in reverse? In other words, optical cable from the cable box to the converter to the SP/DIF? (guess I can look to see if there are any specifically configured that way).

Swapped out our old Motorola STB for an Arris. Discovered that the new STB does not have an SP/DIF output jack, just the optical. That would be fine, except that our home theater system currently has the SP/DIF connected, and there's virtually no way to get to the back of the sound system...
