its fm2. so that means the strongest you can upgrade to is the a10 6800k. i mean it would be a substantial upgrade. but i would just recommend you get enough money so that you can get a new mobo and CPU. these little parts here are MUCH more powerful than the APU itself and only a little bit...

Yup that explains a lot. the a6 is not a very strong CPU.

well if its for gaming, the 4702mq will be enough really. and even for calculations it will be more than enough. the 750m is quite more powerfull than a 740m.

he doesnt have to use intel. an APU will suffice for HTPC use. and if he ever chooses to start gaming. the apu will do fine.
