Are you trying to put a desktop processor on a laptop motherboard?

Video encoding, chess engines (constant 100% load for about a minute), and the temp remains stable at around 80 degrees.

I have underclocked it to 1.33 GHz and the temp under 100% load is now around 78-81 degrees, can this be considered "safe" ?

Well, I feel that the laptop is too thin to accommodate a full core i3 chip, do you recommend underclocking/undervolting the chip?

The idle temp is around 50-55 degrees, the heatsinks are clean, and those temps are only reached with 100% CPU load.

i3 330M: 2.13 GHz i3 350M: 2.26 GHz This is the only difference between the two processors. In my opinion, it is not really worth to spend £40 on something you may not notice.
