Thats pretty weird, it works flawlessy as long as an external monitor is connected...i know this is a LONG shot, but maybe some bug is causing this. Hook up both monitors, go to resolution settings, set it do display the laptop as main, and if you can disable the second monitor do that, then...

I would imagine the ribbon that connects the display to the mobo is failing, or the screen itself is just dying. The external monitor still working indicates this also..

absolutely makes me think virus/malware. Have you tried running all the standard stuff? Malwarebytes? Super Anti Spyware? ADW cleaner? CCleaner? HitmanPro? I would honestly run them all.

asus, has a better cpu. Quad core vs dual core, im pretty sure update: not to mention the asus has a 960M for the mobile GPU, and the toshiba has a 930M. The asus will be better for gaming, and everything else.

the OCZ psu is not a great known brand when it comes to power supplies, its not even bronze certified so it isn't very efficient. Also the FX series has a somewhat weak memory controller, you are better of with 2 x 4 GB RAM instead of 4 x 2 GB sticks. Less stress on the memory controller.

I second that PSU comment, it could in fact be the issue. Update windows, the BIOS, the chipset, everything. Run MalwareBytes and Hitman Pro. run a sfc /scannow command from an elevated command prompt.

Will you be using this as a PC monitor too? or just for watching TV? they both do 120hz, and i generally prefer Samsung panels. Can you see both before you buy, as in to compare side by side?

do you have a laptop or PC near the TV? does it have HDMI/VGA/DVI inputs?
