I think because if they put it on the top whilst it is in your pocket (the right way up), the wire doesn't bend but if the put it on the bottom the wire will bend quite a bit from the jack.

No problem :) . You must also take into account the shield is a device optimized for gaming and also has a different shape, (heat dissapation)Also it has a cooling fan as well to keep cool letting it run at higher speeds. I think the Shield would have better performance as gaming device.
