Go to your BIOS, turn off UEFI and change to legacy boot. You can then boot to whatever you want, format the hard drive and install Linux. Windows 8 is a pain in the ass.

You can build a good, solid gaming rig AND buy a low-end gaming laptop for that budget. Don't pour all your eggs in the gaming laptop basket if you aren't a hardcore gamer.
