You can upgrade the CPU in many laptops, but most people don't. In some laptops it's easier than others. It is a good idea to swap out the HDD that comes with many laptops for an SSD, I've done it a few times myself, and you can do it to new laptops the same as old laptops.

I remember having that problem with many xp clean installs. If I remember correctly it means that you need to install the audio driver from the manufacturer's website.

AVG will also affect your boot time. That was one reason why I swapped to Avast! on my laptop. With AVG my boot time was just over 30 seconds (with an SSD) and with Avast! or when I've used MSE in the past it boots in 23 seconds. I can only imagine how it might affect a traditional hard drive.

Have you timed your boot time? A healthy fresh installed Windows 7 I3 laptop should boot in around 45 seconds with a traditional hard drive and over time could slow down. If it's too slow I would check to make sure that there aren't a lot of services starting at boot, that there aren't any...

Not likely because most of the dv9000 are about 5 years old, but I would try to contact them. I know someone who has a dv9000 and the motherboard is slowly but surely failing, they just bit the bullet and bought a new laptop, because it was for business use and stability was vital.
