You just hit the jackpot! I did not know these devices existed. By extracting the audio from the HDMI cable and then outputting it to an optical or audio output, this will fulfill my needs. Thank you very much.

Hmm. Sounds like you're suggesting to use the optical out on the TV for the audio being sent to the AV receiver vs. the HDMI cable?

Thanks. Yeah I could do that but then we lose the good sound for everyone else. I'm wondering if I could wire in a 3.5mm connection to possibly the center channel speaker connection, on the receiver, unless someone comes up with a better solution.
