Did some more research and you are right, HDCP (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-bandwidth_Digital_Content_Protection) prevents the TV from passing through 5.1 audio from HDMI to the optical output. Very frustrating. -

Hello, My TV is a Samsung un46c6300sf, and my receiver is a Sony str-k750p. I have the PS3 going to the TV via HDMI, and the TV going to the receiver via optical cable. I set the PS3 to output Dolby Surround, DTS, and Linear 5.1 (on top of the Linear 2-channel output that I can't unselect)...
