You do have the Premium version of netflix correct? That is the only way you can have access to the 4k content from Netfilx.

They will inherently be worse because the picture is stretched. The difference will be negligable though. Most media is at 1080p nowadays so you are better off upgrading to 1080p and just dealing with the 768 resolution on the dvd's you have.

A little more info would help. What size screen? Is she going to be carrying it to every class or serve more as an in dorm laptop? You would want a small light one for daily class use but if you are leaving it in the dorms you can get away with a bigger one.
