The Amp is a Xms AV-3030. So I should just think of a DAC as a sort of, external sound card which will bypass my onboard chip and in turn give me better sound?

I have a pre 2005 amp connected to my PC through the onboard audio. Would I be better off getting a new amp or a DAC instead of using the cheap onboard chip? Also could you recommend some EQ software? Thanks

So a DAC will improve the quality better then a dedicated sound card will?

Does running a dedicated sound card into a surround sound amp improve sound quality compared to using onboard? Speakers are not powered so I'm under the impression that you wont be able to power them from your pc and must have a separate power input (5.1 surround sound for me).
