Have a second computer to test the drive with? The blu ray laser could be malfunctioning, but the only way to really test if it's the drive or your computer is to test the drive on a different computer.

Update: removed Linux and now only have Windows on the internal drive, built in screen still doesn't work. It only works with Linux right now... Also, ran furmark on the GTX960, no issues running at 1080P for about 2 minutes
