With that kind of budget I would look at the Asus ROG series of laptops. In reality, anything with an i5 (or i7 for better multitasking) and a decent graphics card (Nvidia GT 750M or better) will be fine.

In that price range look for an AMD A6, A8 APU. 600$ for an A10 is a good deal if you can find it. The advantage of AMD's accelerated processing units is the integrated graphics card. They run games much better than any Intel at that price. Expect to be able to play games like The Sims, WOW, LOL...

I was going to say exactly what iceblitzed above said. The harddrive and RAM are the easiest things to upgrade in a laptop and SSD prices are coming down a lot. ASUS, Dell and HP can have what you're looking for. You can get a 250Gb SSD for 110-150$. Samsung, Crucial, Kingston are all good...
