The part where you insert might be damaged, I had the same problem on my d700, had to have it replaced, it might be a bent pin inside. It happens when you put the card in wrong

5500 is much better camera, sensor cleaner, not good enough reason to not get it, I suggest save a bit more and get the 7200, the results in lowlight is worth it
