Okay, so my main assumption right now is that the Blu Ray drive is not plugged in correctly into the motherboard, you will need to open your PC up to make sure that the Blu Ray drive is plugged in the SATA port correctly. However this could be a issue with Windows 8 since there was multiple...
This is going to sound weird, but do you have Windows Media Center for Windows 8, because if you don't you can't play certain Blu-rays or DVD's. Report back when you know if you have it or not.
First of all, please do not buy a SSD and write on it. Even though SSD's are reliable for a boot drive. When you write files (EG : Recording, Rendering) you can kill it very quickly. So buy a cheap one but don't write on it too much.
Anyway, the build you have is great currently, but switch out...
I'd recommend you wait and save up, mainly because buying a laptop for editing costs a lot of money right now. However if you are looking to get a laptop right now, make sure the laptop has 6GB RAM+ and a intel i5 at the minimum
Its probably windows, mainly because the CPU or GPU have power save functions and even though sleep mode is disabled the same issue will occur. You could fix this but its just a pain if you want to and it could break your laptop.
So just face the laptop screen away from you, I know this sucks...

Nvidia http://www.nvidia.co.uk/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-uk
I know its video but it does include audio...

If your planning to use this to play CS : GO and...
Sadly, laptops for gaming are EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE.
Even though crysis is 2007, its a very hard game to run. Mainly because the game was way built for next gen. $500-$580 won't be enough sadly, since were going into next generation for console, system requirements are rapidly increasing as we...
Gaming Laptops are extremely expensive to a Gaming PC equivalent. Its around a ratio 1:3 which means your paying 3x as much so your computer can move around. GPU line up is simple if your talking nvidia, GTX760 is a medium gaming card and a GTX 780 is a monster.
Gaming Laptops aren't really...
Okay, if its £800. Here's a good laptop, its a little over budget but its worth it http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/laptops-netbooks/laptops/laptops/acer-aspire-v3-772g-17-3-laptop-champagne-21704908-pdt.html
