Nasty Ransomware Holds PC Games Hostage

It doesn't really say what is encrypted. It could be specific data, it could be logs/screenshots people would want, etc. which you can't really "reinstall" if it gets corrupted or encrypted. Other than those? Pfft. Format, reinstall, restore from backup.

Gold Apple Watch, Like All Jewelry, is a Rip-Off

As has been mentioned - actual jewelry can be a good investment, something the author doesn't seem to "get" (especially with the "Give your fiance a TV, not a ring" bit. If someone tries it, please have a video camera running. We'll laugh at it on Youtube.) But this, unlike actual precision...

One Week Later, CBS Still Dark on Time Warner Cable

"By blacking out CBS, Time Warner has essentially raised its subscription rate, forcing customers to pay the same for less given that content has been locked out both offline and online. " ... well, I'd accept that statement if it had been a significant amount of time since the lockout started...

    Hands-on with the Windows 8.1 9369 Leak

Will definitely look into the preview. If they work on combining some of the control panel items, so we don't have what should basically be the same (at least "parent") panel split between what you see in metro and what you see on the desktop, it'll take care of one of my annoyances, at least...

Microsoft's Outlook.com No Longer in Preview; Bye Hotmail

Heh, I've had Hotmail since before Microsoft owned it. Don't really care about the interface - everything comes in via Thunderbird anyway.

Chubby Checker Sues HP Over Penis-measuring App

Wow, have to wonder how young all the people going "Who? Never heard of him, lol" are. Music started before the 90s, folks. And he's a successful musician - probably making more money than most of the "lol, wut" folks will ever see.

15 Programs That Should be on Any New PC

Don't care about tweetdeck, etc. However, when setting up a PC, instead of digging through all those (and more,) I can recommend going to ninite.com. Pick from a bunch of programs - including skype, chrome, opera, most of those mentioned here and more. Get a custom installer. Download, run, come...

Newly Appointed Yahoo! CEO Confirms She's Pregnant

jibbsand this is tech news why???? For the same reason as, for instance, Steve Jobs having cancer/extended medical leave. It *is* the sort of information people (such as, say, investors) want to know - so it gets put out not just through business channels but via appropriate sites. Such as tech...

Valve Finally Confirms Steam for Linux

Have to wonder just how much use this will get, honestly. If we're looking at "You need to play with WINE" and all the misc. adjustments to get stuff to run that arent' indie (or the few titles like L4D they mention,) it just won't be that big. Nice for the people who *use* Linux, sure, I don't...

Kid Racks Up £1150 Xbox Live Bill, Father Blames MSFT

I can see both sides, to a point. There SHOULD be a password (even optional, but enabled by default) before making purchases, sure. However, *HE* should have been watching his money far better. Hell, if anything he missed a great parenting opportunity - namely, teaching his kid *about* money...

BioWare's The Old Republic Now Free Until Level 15

Pity. Of course, TOR didn't really bring much *new* to the table - and the voice acting really had the potential to slow down content release, honestly. It gained the description of a "single player RPG you have to play online," and that was fairly accurate.

Hands On With The Microsoft Surface Tablet

Have to agree about the "day late" feel, price being a potential issue - and somewhat about the keyboard, though it's the same concept as my brother's Android tablet (and his cover with a keyboard built in) - just as flat, but for quick input now and again, works fine. I can't help but wonder...

So not just criminals, but inept and slightly high criminals?

10 Classic PC Games Begging For A Remake

Zork: "A remake clearly begs for a graphical game. This was a game born on dumb terminals, after all. Because it was text, people didn't get the real immersion of "the ruins of an ancient empire lying far underground." ... really? It's like books that are made into movies - there's no...

Bill to Tax Violent Video Games Introduced in Oklahoma

Politics: It sounded like a good place to put the terminally stupid. Then they figured out they could pass laws.
