Acer laptops themselves are in my opinion decent quality. But when something does go wrong with them the tech support blows. You have to fork out cash just to talk to them, nevermind have your computer fixed. I'm replacing my aspire 4520 (which has been dying for years, but it hangs in there)...

I can't reinstall anything because when I try to nothing saves nor does it open to run an installer. Whatever I have on here now the installer was already on the computer. It does seem like the quickest, but I don't want to have to spend 100 dollars on this if I can fix it.

I never got a solution to that, I'm thinking sometimes laptop cd drives just die a lot quicker than desktop drives. I accidentally cloned over my old hard drive so I ordered an external usb cd drive for it in order to fix it. You can go on ebay and get one for like 10 dollars shipping included...

I just took (2) 1g ram from a friends dead laptop, put it in, and it worked. So I'm guessing yes.

It sounds like you killed it. I don't know of any fixes for this. I really hope somebody knows one though.

First: I recieved this laptop as a birthday gift a couple years back, and it is getting very slow on me. I've looked at the specs online, and it says its upgradeable to 4gb ram. Now would I be able to just go out and buy any laptop ram and stick it in there? Would I have any issues in upgrading...

I found the intel vs AMD section very helpful to me. I always hear about Intel is better than AMD, or AMD is better than Intel, but thanks for clearing up which is better for what.
