    I just bought a new headset with a single audio/mic cord, and my laptop only has one audio/mic combo jack, but mic doesnt work

    What worked for me is to open Realtek HD Audio Manager. At the top right click Device Advanced Settings and the check the option "Separate all input jacks as independent input devices.
