I just bought a panasonic upconverting dvd player...when i used a cheap 2$ hdmi cable i bought off ebay the picture is HORRIBLE...it's worse than composite...i tried componet cable and same thing...but when i used an S-Video cable the picture was a nice crisp 480p.....i even took the dvd player...
