    Use a USB-C to DisplayPort adapter, not HDMI, assuming the monitor has DP. Which monitor is it?

    Have you plugged the monitor's USB hub into the computer? The USB data isn't carried through the HDMI connection, it needs a separate cable (a USB Type B cable). If the monitor has a USB hub then it should have come with one of these cables included.
