Best Smart Home Gadgets to Keep You Cool This Summer

The Sensibo is a great way to control split unit AC/Heat Pump devices (and most window AC devices). Programming the OEM remote on my split unit was a non-intuative painfull process. The Sensibo not only makes it easier, but it does more, like turning the entire unit on/off at certain temperatures.

Nest 3 vs. Ecobee4: Which Smart Thermostat Wins?

I'm surprised you consider the Nest not requiring a C wire to be an advantage. There are lots of reported problems with Nest's "power stealing" feature. Also, the design should not be worth any points--they are very similar and it would just be personal preference. That's a tie. Finally, and...

Nest 3 vs. Ecobee4: Which Smart Thermostat Wins?

I'm shocked you consider Nest working without a C wire to be an advantage. There have been a lot of reported problems of the Nest's "power stealing" functions. Also, design getting 10 points when they are so similar? That's just a personal preference thing. Finally, any review of smart...

TiVo's Leaked Cloud DVR Already Looks Dated

I don't get what the advantage of recording to the Cloud is. You can already stream recorded programs from your Tivo box (Bolt or Roamio) to another device inside our outside the house. Putting the recordings in the Cloud just lessens the reliability and runs up your data to/from your ISP.

Bitdefender Antivirus Plus 2015 Review: Best All-Around Security

Bitdefender was very good up until the 2016 product and the launch of Windows 10. Based on how upgrading went, seemingly the company was completely unaware that Windows 10 was coming out. I had so many issues with their 2015 product under Windows 10 that I signed up for their public beta of...

In Defense of the Intel Compute Stick

It's too bad they don't have some sort of powered USB hub as part of the power supply.

In Defense of the Intel Compute Stick

Realize things get more expensive as they are made smaller. Also, if I recall correctly, they have to pay Microsoft more for the Windows license on this than the tiny netbooks because it doesn't have a tiny monitor.

Galaxy S6 Review: The Android Phone to Beat

Too bad you didn't provide the other stats for the S5. That would be my choice over the S6.

Legal? PlayLater Lets You Record All of Netflix for $20

The 1984 case was two big corporations fighting each other--Disney and Sony. There is only one Supreme Court (it's not plural) and they did not create the confusion. Congress expressly and purposefully used the term "Fair Use" to allow courts to adapt to difference fact patterns, and when...

Legal? PlayLater Lets You Record All of Netflix for $20

I think the author's legal analysis is too complex. The 1984 Sony case dealt with copyright. There were no licensing issues because people are generally thought to be allowed to view broadcast content without licensing. (The NFL might disagree.)

Legal? PlayLater Lets You Record All of Netflix for $20

Amazon used to allow that with their Unbox program.

Your Guide to Cable TV Cord-Cutting

Why is getting an Internet connected device slicker than using a PC? I don't think there's anything a PC can't do that one of these devices can do (ignoring the gaming devices), and a PC can also play DVDs and Blu-Ray discs as well as act as a DVR. The comment would be like saying that a...

LeTV Superphone Fights Apple 'Tyranny' with USB Type-C

Recharge time has never been a big concern for me, although I will admit that when running Google Maps and streaming music with the screen on the charge rate at 2 amps is pretty slow. My concern is more this would be like buying a phone with a proprietary connector at this stage of the game...

LeTV Superphone Fights Apple 'Tyranny' with USB Type-C

I'm not seeing USB-C as being an advantage on a smartphone at this stage, unless that port is backward compatible with the existing mini-USB plugs. Smartphones connect to USB primarily just for power, so having a different plug for power is not an advantage.
