need a good performance / gaming laptop - high end i7

Any laptop with 4GB graphics would be a desktop replacement or gaming machine, so price range will be near your upper range or more. You already have a full desktop build mapped out so you may just want to go with that. That system would be capable of overclocking and much better results so if...

    Upgrade to GTX 950m?

Depends what you use the system for. Also, would you be replacing the entire system? I assume you're talking about laptops?

Shopping for Mirrorless Interchangeable lens camera -budget $1000-1500

Sony a6000 is about $1000 with 2 lenses, then there's a higher model a7 for $1500 or so with single lens. Both are great, small, portable, easy to use, outstanding photos. Not sure where you live, but they are available in Best Buy stores to play with. A7 model has a better LCD that provides a...

Gaming laptop mobo just fried, what can I do with it?

Either take it apart or sell it as a whole and mention defective mobo. Someone may want to try to replace it and use it since it is a decent laptop still. This may be a better option as it may be more difficult trying to sell individual laptop parts.

    which laptop is better

Exactly, so what do you need more? The CPU gain is not much, RAM you can always replace, but GPU you can not.. But may be you don' t need good GPU?

Going to college desktop or laptop for gaming

All-in-one (desktop) machines can be difficult to carry due to screen size and weight. "Gaming" laptops with a dedicated graphics card are typically 15" or larger and 5+ pounds, so they aren't exactly portable either which is why they are called 'desktop replacements'. Ideally to carry around...

    i3 4000M + 840M vs i5 5200U + HD 5500

That's a tough choice.. you really don't want to i3 for gaming, but you don't want that HD 5500 either. I suggest waiting for a deal with a better CPU GPU combo.

    Best college laptop?

Depends on your budget.. but a decent gaming laptop would have an i5 CPU, dedicated 2GB graphics, SSD is a plus, and LCD 1080p. A system like this is roughly about $700-800 at this time for a nice deal. Specification wise, it is a MacBook Pro on steroids, for quite a bit less in price.

    Lenovo Y50 or Asus ROG?

Both really good, I happen to have both but slightly different specifications. Clearly if it's one or the other, you must go with the Lenovo as the specifications are much better.. no question.
