First off, can you look at your CPU and GPU utilization afterwards to see which one was in use? Task Manager and GPU-Z would be useful for this.

All depends on what you want. IE10 is very quick but Firefox still has a much bigger selection of plug-ins and add-ons.

Not if you pay for it... I don't think there are any restrictions of that kind. As long as you own a legal copy and stick to the rules in the license agreement. Just don't try and install it on multiple PC's.

I'm a fan of Microsoft Security Esssentials, personally (Windows Defender as of W8). Question: Will the new laptop have Windows 7 or 8 on it? If W8, it comes with Defender included.

Can you see anything besides a black screen? If so, try right-click->Screen resolution and play with your display settings. removing the seond monitor should do the trick. If all else fails, just unplug everything and reboot.

I would take neither, if you want to do any serious gaming. What do you plan to use it for, and what is your budget?

Must agree with Cons29; If you are planning on next gen gaming as a primary use for the machine, a desktop would be a much better choice.
