Try discharging the battery fully, then reconnect the power and see if it turns on that way. It might also be that the laptop requires the integrated graphics as part of the POST operation, as some devices don't recognise the dedicated graphics until later on in the boot process.

Does it boot into Windows before it shuts down, or does it shut down on the POST screen?
