    Laptop crashing no warning

    Did manage to get into event viewer, only info it gives me is sudden power loss, not sure how helpful this is but I will do a teardown to confirm all power connections are sound.

    Thanks for the tip, it's not actually something I've considered but given the workload I would not consider it vital, more of a bonus. That said I will take care to avoid TN panels in favour of ips, any other things you can reccommend short of actually testing the panels?

    Event viewer sounds like a great idea but I'm finding it difficult now to get I to windows unfortunately. And yes, I've already tried with and without battery and with and with out charger in all combinations. Temps under load hit no higher than 75 under aida64, 60-70 under usual load, though...

    My 2 year old laptop has started to crash suddenly. It'll be fine for an hour maybe 2 but then the screen turns off aswell as other peripherals but the fan stays on. It seems as if it's overheating but I feel that is doubtful as I've made sure the heat sink is immaculately clean, the fan works...

    Col geek, thanks for the link! There isn't a set budget really, anything less than £1000 I guess. Looking at that page pushes me a little towards the intel system as having the system memory shared to the igp I feel may hurt more than a beefier (vega) gpu would help

    Laptop making strange crackling sound when idle

    As the title states, my laptop (HP pavilion ak 001 I believe) makes this quite audiable crackling/clicking sound, it only ever seems to stop when I/O is used to change things on the screen, so things like gaming and scrolling web pages yet the noise returns when watching videos. I have tried...
