Swype Update Has Dictation System, Handwriting Recognition

Given that the current Swype keyboard can't pick the right word some of the time anyway then I've not got much hope for the next word prediction. Am I really going to say "swype" more than "swipe"? And some of the obscure words it comes up with instead of a five-letter word are just bizarre!

Gamification: It's Like Playing Diablo For Everything You Do

Give people a metric (like the number of tweets to get a "reward") and they'll game the system as much as playing the game. They'll do just enough on each goal and no more. They'll aim for their goals and the technicalities of what the minimum requirements are at the expense of the real purpose.

LinkedIn Sued $5M Over Password Leak

WARNING: PR SPEAK! Not published is not the same as not used. I've had spam come to the address I registered with at LinkedIn and was CCed to an address that I registered with at Last.fm. The two addresses were different (a unique address per site) and were used nowhere else. The chances of...

Facebook, Google Joining Alliance To Stop Bad Ads

lashabaneDon't get me wrong, I'm all for reducing malware but these are major players coming together in a concerted effort to filter the internet. Is it good? Is it bad?Too early to tell but it does worry me a little./tinfoilhat But if they're coming together in order to filter the adverts, is...

PopCap, Wooga Pulling Games Off Google+

Or maybe people use Google+ in a more mature/professional/technical way than they use Facebook and don't go on there to play banal games? Just a thought.

Twitter Expanding Tweets To Include Videos, Content Previews

That's great. Even better, I generally use a client rather than the website, and when I do use the website then I don't expand tweets, so I don't even have to see it!

Oh Look, Last.fm Lost Passwords Too!

agnickolovThe real problem is that the passwords are stored in the first place. If the site only stores hashes that problem will never occur. You can't login using a hash... No, but you can brute-force a hash (or have a "rainbow table" of the common ones, which people will use surprisingly...

Nintendo's Wii U Launch Titles Potentially Leaked

We've seen it on a screenshot claiming to be a stock inventory for a company? It must be true! Just like the iPhone 5 on Sprint was completely and utterly accurate, with no discrepancies from what happened what-so-ever. ....Oh, wait(!) (I'm sure there was another example, but I can't find it...

13 Tips and Tricks for Instagram Power Users

I agree with the advice on Pic 8 - Upgrade your camera. Get a real one. Take real pics. Use real photo-editing software (if you have to). Upload to site of your choice.

VIDEO: Every HTC One S Case Gets Blasted with 10,000 Volts

ap3xYea, I have to agree with you. They would not do it because ............It serves no point. This does not even simulate a likely situation. That's because it isn't meant to simulate a likely situation ;) The electricity is part of a process for creating the backing, not a test they ran on it.

Samsung Galaxy S III to Hit March 13?

kenyeeUS launches always seem to lag at least 3-6 months from Euro launches....they're announcing the Galaxy Note at the super bowl in February when it's been available overseas for a few months :-P Makes a change to the US getting films, games and most other stuff 3-6 months in advance, eh? ;)...

Microsoft, Facebook, Google, Others Join Forces to Fight Phishing

This wouldn't help with spam (despite the picture) or generic scams, just phishing. So we'd still get the Nigerian princes, the "male medicine", the R0lllllex and the rest. The only stuff you wouldn't get is stuff telling you to log in to [insert bank/store/social network]. TBH, this will only...

Xbox 720 Won't Play Used Games; Wii U Better Than X360

What, you mean like Games for Windows Live? PCs are already getting screwed by this one. By all means do what Assassin's Creed: Revalations collector's edition did and do some extra niceties for the first purchaser that are unlocked with a one-time code, but crippling resales like that makes it...

Company Sues Former Employee for Taking Twitter Followers

Oh noes! He "stole" a customer list... ...which anyone who was logged in who looked at PhoneDog_Noah's Followers list can see... Me thinks they misunderstand something.

User's Facebook Data Request Produces 1222 Pg PDF on CD

mrmike_49well actually, a little bit - it must take a monster lot of storage to keep EVERYTHING about EVERYBODY. facebook must be making a lot of money, or it's subsidized by FBI Well, it isn't as if a 30PB (yes, PETABYTE - that's the one bigger than terrabytes) in July 2011 is exactly tiny. Add...
