A screen change would indeed change your native resolution, not the motherboard, but I would advise against it, as it will only strain your CPU/GPU more than you need to, on laptops 1920x1080 is hardly ever necessary, especially if it isn't a very large screen to begin with.

The laptop should be fine, if you keep it well ventilated(ie: don't play on a bed or blanket). The processor should be upgraded if possible, but you can expect decent performance. Don't expect 60fps, but it should run at acceptable levels throughout, so long as you don't try to use texture...
