Need help with my audio setup for my computer

Probably that "volume wheel" is an amplifier and it can't handle a 12" subwoofer. If the 12" subwoofer is powered then this isn't setup correctly anyways, but if it's not powered then you're lacking an amplifier.

    Programming and gaming

If you're going to university then you're old and smart enough to use Newegg's Power Search: https://www.newegg.com/Product/PowerSearch.aspx?SubCategory=32&N=100006740&IsNodeId=1

    Start me up

All joking aside, if a laptop won't start up with the charger attached then the typical diagnostics are: 1) Remove the battery, use the charger alone. Try to start it. If it doesn't, continue. 2) Remove the charger and battery. Hold the power button for 60 seconds. This may help reset some...

Ideas on what to spend money on.

As someone with a 17.3" laptop, you don't want one if you'd ever carry it anywhere. You already have a good desktop, so having it in the same place all the time sounds rather dumb as you'd simply use your desktop instead. Before you even consider any of this, ask yourself a few questions...

    Hp m6 (core i5 6th gen, 1tb HDD, 8GB RAM) vs. HP Spectre x2 (Core m3, 128 SSD, 4GB RAM)

Bit confused here, as the Spectre I'm seeing around $400 while the M6 seems around $700. Are you looking at a used M6 - those seem around $400? I'd choose new over used every time due to the inherent risk but obviously a used machine at $400 is more powerful than a new machine at $400 assuming...

i5 vs i3 (same specs, just price difference)

The CPUs *seem* identical except that the i5-6200U has turbo boost up to 2.8GHz while the i3-6100U is stuck at 2.3GHz maximum all the time. Both, of course, downclock when idle. This means that for situations where you are idle and then decide to do something, the i5 will do it at 2.8GHz...

I want to know what to look for on motherboards for Skylake 1151 for improved sound both integrated and add on.

Current generation ALC1150 integrated sound is generally as high end as you can get with SnR over 110dB. Some manufacturers will claim to put shielding or separate audio tracks on the board. You'd need to look specifically into those motherboards and read reviews to see if they address that by...

    (Desktop) RAM Question

It's not even just same brand and model, when you have multiple sticks they should be coming from a kit where the manufacturer is guaranteeing that those particular modules work together. To put numbers on these things, you can mix sticks about 97% of the time. When you mix multiple sticks you...

Can this laptop support games like tf2 or dota?

I would sort of be surprised if it handles it well, though the higher end quad core Pentium chip stands the best chance. Personally, for college I would really suggest not having a desktop..

    Desktop + Crap-top or Convertible?

An 840M can run some things OK, some things great, and some things poorly. Here's some benchmarks: http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-840M.105681.0.html My guess is it could handle H1Z1 at 720P medium just fine. For college, I think you'll find you use a laptop more than you...

    RAID 0 on a laptop

Typically the BIOS has an option about how to configure the storage: IDE, Legacy, AHCI, RAID. If you see no such options then you simply don't have a RAID BIOS and your hardware doesn't know anything about how to setup a RAID configuration. This leaves software. If you wanted to use Linux...

Norton Antivirus problem - Subscription Ended

I'm not sure what you're asking here - it sounds like it expired about 10 days earlier than you were expecting? If so, you'll want to see what the actual expiration date was supposed to be... it's weird for it to end a little early like that. Either way, do you really want to spend $40 for...

    Speaker or SPDIF output

SPDIF can send digital signals like Dolby, DTS, and PCM directly to the receiver for it to decode. Speaker does the decoding on the board and outputs an analog signal. SPDIF is preferred, but may be complicated to actually configure correctly. Also, one cable versus 6 is rather nice.
