HD 520 (Passmark Score 763) is a good bit faster than 820m (Passmark Score 580) but closer to HD4400 (Passmark Score 547).

Not sure off the top of my head but an 820m performs a hair faster than intel HD 4400 which is a more common GPU and will be a good guide to refer to when checking any game.

You're better off building a budget gaming tower for example: i5-4590 ($160) GTX 950 ($120) and switching all portable non-gaming usage on a baytrail tablet ($99) or a intel duel core laptop ($150).

GPU can't be changed which is the most important bottleneck you'd be dealing with in gaming, adding more ram won't add much of a performance increase with that system for even regular desktop usage. I have an intel hd 4000 on my laptop also and a 780ti in my gaming PC, the hd 4000 doesn't do...

Can't be changed, all parts are saughtered in. I'd look into a gaming desktop if you don't have one already.

I have seen both 770m & 8970m in person and amd is the better choice for gaming, i'm pretty sure the 780m is the best but they are much higher in cost.
