980m is awesome for laptop gaming. You could probably buy another 8GB of RAM in a store and pay $5-$10 to get them to install it for you if you want to future proof for titles that use lots of RAM.

As long as the game doesn't require a AMD 7970 or a GTX 760 to run it at recommended settings then your laptop should handle it fine. Upgrading to 8GB of RAM should not be too hard.

I wouldn't attempt to swap out the 1TB hard drive for an SSD, but the laptop looks good. Its a good processor and graphics card for gaming. It should play every game, and you will barely notice loading times on that hard drive unless you play Sims 3.

You won't get highest settings on Witcher 3 in a $1000 laptop. You will need at least an i7 and 970m for that. However the game will look great at medium settings on a i7/860m laptop.

Ok! Well the 960m and i7 4700MQ with 8GB RAM is perfect for that. Just look for the cheapest laptop with those parts and other features that you want. That's the same approach I take and I got a crazy cheap deal after a while of looking.

If you want a laptop that performs better and have money left over in your budget my recommendation is the 965m. It has a lot more shaders and ROPs for a price that is still cheaper than a 970m. So you could play games at slightly higher settings or get noticeably more frames per second...

Intel i5 4300U with 940m, would be an example of a laptop that could play everything you wanted if you can find the cash, but there are plenty of awesome older games so you don't have to worry about missing much if that money is important to you.

Its a laptop. You can not upgrade the graphics card or CPU. Best you can do is add a second stick of 4GB DDR3L SDRAM.

Damn. Yeah, work through Dell customer support. Laptop graphics are a pain to work with and fix when things go wrong so official tech support is the way to go.

I'm guessing with most dual 5870 (and dual GPU laptops in general) setups the manufacturer underclocks them both to save on power and heat. 1000 and 700 are the max advertised speeds for that GPU.
