Never mind, it ended up being a dead hard drive. I just swapped it out with one from a different laptop and it works fine now. I figured it might be the HDD but just wasn't sure at the time.

My laptop keeps getting a solid blue screen and I can't get to the BIOS or safe mode (pressing keys does nothing), but occasionally it'll start up ok, then next time blue screen again. It doesn't seem like anything is loose so I'm not sure how to diagnose if it's a hardware or software issue...
