It's because the older iPad won't accept OS 10-the only way to get youtube but here's how I did it. Open Safari, enter Youtube. that's it. and put the icon on the home screen using one of the tabs on top (which I had to open to find) Lesson-Use the simplest way first instead of digging here...

My iPad is OS 9.5.3 the most current version for it- and the only available youtube app is OS 10 so it looks like I need to find an older version.

Youtube won't play on my iPad -it's asking for an update. I can't seem to find how. It's an older iPad mini.
