You need to adjust your power plan in windows 10. All laptops run in lower power mode while unplugged. You can adjust it, it will eat more battery though

For your budget don't settle for any less than an 860m / 950m for the GPU (the 860m is slightly better than the 950m)

It's the minimum I'd recommend for it. Consider getting an SSD too.
