Here you can see the empty M.2 slot and the 2.5" tray "blocking" it. Just plugged in the M.2 to the empty slot and closed the back panel carefully. It's now formatted and running and pretty sure pressing against the back plate by the slot's spring force.

You have two M.2 slots with this model, both visible in your pictures. It also comes with a "HDD upgrade kit" which is just a cable and screws to affix 2,5" SATA SSD to the PCI-E bus. You don't have to remove the SATA tray, which I did to see if there would be a place for the fastening screw...

I'm at a loss here. I've got the laptop on the table with the back cover off and I removed the empty SATA SSD tray. The slot for the M.2 drive is visible there but there is a screw slot poking out directly from under where the drive would lie. Furthermore there is no slot for the securing screw...
